DETROIT MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO HEROIN DISTRIBUTION

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Charles M. Leverett, 30, of Detroit, pleaded guilty today in federal court before United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers to distribution of heroin.  Leverett admitted that on October 20, 2011, he met an undercover law enforcement agent at a prearranged location in Huntington to complete a heroin transaction.  The defendant subsequently sold 22.5 grams of heroin to the informant in exchange for $3100.  Leverett also admitted that he sold quantities of heroin on three different occasions to an undercover law enforcement agent.

Leverett faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine when he is sentenced on May 14, 2012.

The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and the Huntington Police Department conducted the investigation.  Assistant United States Attorney Gregory McVey is in charge of the prosecution.
