KENTUCKY MAN CONVICTED ON ILLEGAL FIREARM POSSESSION CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Marvin Ford, 38, of Rush, Kentucky, was found guilty today by a jury sitting in Charleston of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Evidence at trial proved that during a January traffic stop of a vehicle being driven by Ford, law enforcement officers found the defendant in possession of a loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
The defendant had been convicted of numerous felonies prior to today’s firearm possession conviction, including the 1994 attempted murder of a West Virginia State Police trooper.
Ford faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to life imprisonment and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on March 20, 2012.
Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Hunter Smith and William King handled the prosecution.
