DETROIT MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL OXYCODONE CHARGE
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Jamere Laron Cole, 34, of Detroit, was sentenced today to 24 months in prison by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers for possession with intent to distribute oxycodone. On March 18, 2009, officers with the Huntington Police Department conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle driven by the defendant at the 3000 block of Washington Boulevard in Huntington. At the time of the traffic stop, a Huntington Police Department K-9 performed a sniff of the defendant's vehicle and detected the presence of controlled substances. During a subsequent search, officers recovered 23 80milligram and 40 40-milligram oxycodone tablets from the center console of the vehicle. The defendant admitted that he possessed the tablets seized from the center console of the vehicle and intended to distribute the tablets in and around Huntington.
This case was prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, joined by various federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, remain committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers in communities across the Southern District.
The Huntington Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Joseph F. Adams handled the prosecution.
