SAINT ALBANS MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON FEDERAL COUNTERFEIT MONEY CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Kevin T. Erwin, 34, of St. Albans, West Virginia, was sentenced today to 15 months in prison by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. for passing counterfeit currency. Erwin admitted that on January 14, 2010, he and an associate passed a counterfeit fifty-dollar Federal Reserve Note (FRN) at McNally’s Pub located in Cross Lanes. The defendant further admitted that after using the counterfeit currency to make a purchase at the Cross Lanes business, he received approximately $45 in genuine currency as change following the purchase. Erwin was arrested on January 18, 2010 at a local motel. At the time of his arrest, Erwin was in possession of counterfeit currency. Other items used to manufacture counterfeit currency including a scanner/copier/printer were located in his motel room.
This case was investigated by the United States Secret Service. Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Ryan handled the prosecution.
