HUNTINGTON MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON ON CRACK COCAINE AND OXYCODONE DISTRIBUTION CHARGES
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. –James Michael Daniel, 33, of Huntington, was sentenced today to 46 months in prison by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers for distribution of crack cocaine and oxycodone. Daniel pleaded guilty in April. Daniel admitted that on July 9, 2010, he sold 5.2 grams of crack cocaine and 10 80-milligram oxycodone pills to an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) at the Smokin’ Aces store that was located in Huntington. Daniel received $440 in exchange for the crack cocaine and the oxycodone pills during the drug transaction that was arranged by an associate. Daniel further admitted to arriving at the Smokin’ Aces store to complete a drug transaction that took place on July 7, 2010. The defendant also admitted to handing 20 80-milligram oxycodone pills to his associate, who then handed the pills to the ATF undercover agent. The undercover agent paid the defendant’s associate $44 for arranging the transaction. The associate also received $880 from the agent as payment for the pills, which was given to Daniel.
Assistant United States Attorney Greg McVey handled the prosecution.
This case is being prosecuted as part of a yearlong undercover operation that targeted illegal drugs and firearms crimes in the Huntington area. The operation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and assisted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Huntington Police Department, and various other law enforcement agencies. It was announced to the public in March after a grand jury returned indictments against 55 defendants.
