CHARLESTON WOMAN SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON ON CRACK COCAINE DISTRIBUTION CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – U.S. Attorney Booth Goodwin announced today that a Charleston woman was sentenced to two years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine. Cary White, 29, of Charleston, previously pleaded guilty in September 2011 to aiding and abetting the distribution of crack cocaine. White admitted that on January 25, 2010, she and an associate sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant working with the West Virginia State Police. The defendant further admitted that she and her associate met the informant at a Charleston restaurant to complete the prearranged drug transaction.
While at the location, the defendant was handed a quantity of crack by her associate. White admitted that she handed the informant the crack cocaine in exchange for $200. The crack cocaine was submitted to the West Virginia State Police Lab for testing and tested positive for crack cocaine weighing .76 grams.
The defendant also admitted that she and her associate were responsible for additional crack cocaine and cocaine transactions in the Charleston area.
The investigation was conducted by the West Virginia State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman handled the prosecution. The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Thomas E. Johnston.
