CHARLESTON MAN SENTENCED TO 7 ½ YEARS IN PRISON ON FEDERAL DRUG CHARGE
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – United States Attorney Booth Goodwin today announced that a Charleston man was sentenced to 7 ½ years in federal prison on illegal drug charges. Timothy Aaron Buckhannon, 39, of Charleston, previously pleaded guilty in April to aiding and abetting the distribution of crack cocaine. Buckhannon admitted that from October 2009 until January 2010, he conspired with a known associate to distribute crack cocaine in and around the Charleston area. The defendant further admitted that during the scheme, he supplied an associate with quantities of cocaine and crack cocaine to distribute and expected to be repaid once the controlled substances were sold. Buckhannon also admitted that he and his co-conspirator distributed crack cocaine and cocaine from a Charleston-area restaurant.
Buckhannon admitted that he sold crack cocaine on nearly ten different occasions between September 9, 2009 and May 14, 2010.
On January 27, 2010, officers with the West Virginia State Police executed a search warrant on the defendant’s Charleston residence and recovered approximately $6970 cash, including money used during a controlled drug transaction, a quantity of cocaine, marijuana and hydrocodone pills.
The West Virginia State Police and the Charleston Police Department Special Enforcement Unit conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Monica Coleman handled the prosecution.
