Two Individuals Convicted on Escape Charge

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — Two individuals were convicted on March 22, 2012, by a Clarksburg jury. The trial lasted two and a half days and concluded on Thursday afternoon after the jury had deliberated for approximately one hour. Judge Irene M. Keeley presided over the trial.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that:

HARVEY BREWER, age 39, an inmate at FCI Gilmer was convicted of escape and TASHA SHELEKA SAUNDERS, age 32, of Baltimore, Maryland, was convicted of aiding and abetting the escape of BREWER from FCI Gilmer on August 28, 2010, where he was in confined at the direction of the Attorney General upon a conviction in the District of Maryland for the offense of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin. BREWER and SAUNDERS, who are in custody, face a maximum exposure of 5 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Flower and was investigated by the West Virginia State Police-Glenville detachment and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
