Wellsburg Resident Sentenced on Firearms Charge

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA — A 30-year old man from Wellsburg, West Virginia, was sentenced to federal prison this week for the illegal possession of a firearm.

According to United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II. PATRICK EUGENE HAUCK was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment and three years of supervised release by Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. as a result of his conviction for “Felon in Possession of a Firearm.”

HAUCK was previously convicted in the Circuit Court of Brooke County, West Virginia, for the felony offense of “Breaking and Entering.” HAUCK admitted that he knowingly possessed a firearm on August 2, 2011, in Wellsburg.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project POWER, an initiative that encourages state, county and local law enforcement officials to refer cases involving firearms to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

HAUCK, who is free on bond, will self-report to a federal correctional institution on July 18, 2012.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard and was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department.
