Harpers Ferry Resident Convicted for
Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 35 year old Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, resident was convicted on January 25, 2012, by a Martinsburg jury on one count of failure to register as a sex offender. The trial lasted a day and a half and concluded on Wednesday afternoon. Chief Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the trial.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: LARNELL TORRENCE MINOR was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender as required by the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). MINOR is a person required to register as sex offender for life as a result of his 1998 conviction for Third Degree Sexual Assault in Montgomery County, Maryland.

MINOR, who is in custody pending sentencing, MINOR faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Kimberley D. Crockett and Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber and was investigated by the United States Marshals Service, with assistance from the West Virginia State Police and the Montgomery County, Maryland, Police Department.
