Grand Jury Indicts Salem Resident

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 26 year old Salem, West Virginia, resident was named in an Indictment returned by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Clarksburg, West Virginia, on January 4, 2012.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: BRANDON LEE FLOYD was named in a 36-count Indictment charging him with eighteen counts of theft of government funds from January 2, 2010, to June 1, 2011, by knowingly stealing United States Treasury checks issued to a Veterans Administration beneficiary who had deceased and eighteen counts of forging an endorsement on the stolen Treasury checks. If convicted, FLOYD faces a maximum exposure of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000 on each count. This case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew R. Cogar and was investigated by the Veterans Administration Office of Inspector General and the United States Secret Service.

It should be noted that the charges contained in the above-referenced Indictments are merely accusations and not evidence of guilt, and that each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
