Charles Town Resident Enters Plea in Federal Court

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 49 year old Charles Town, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on September 12, 2011, in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that: CARL DOUGLAS MEYER a/k/a LENY VAN GEND entered a plea of guilty to one count of mail fraud by mailing a list of items for sale to a customer. MEYER devised a scheme to sell forged autographs of sports celebrities and used the mail to send the merchandise and receive payment from customers. MEYER, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum exposure of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti and was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service.
