Morgantown Resident Sentenced for
Failure to Update Sex Offender Registration

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 43 year old Morgantown, West Virginia, resident was sentenced on May 19, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: JESSE JAMES ROTON, was sentenced to 33 months imprisonment to be followed by five years of supervised release. ROTON entered a plea of guilty on January 12, 2011, to one count of failing to register under the Sex Offender Notification Act and traveling in interstate commerce. As part of the plea, the parties stipulated that the defendant was found guilty on December 11, 1991, of Second Degree Sexual Assault in the Circuit Court of Monongalia County, West Virginia, and he was sentenced to a term of ten to twenty years in the West Virginia Penitentiary. ROTON was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending designation to a Federal institution.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Stephen D. Warner and was investigated by the United States Marshals Service.
