Four Inmates at FCI Gilmer Sentenced

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — Four inmates at FCI Gilmer were sentenced on March 7 and 10, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that TOMA BATES, age 37, was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment to run consecutive to his current sentence; and ODELL GLASS, age 28, JAMES JENKINS, age 29, and DONELLE KIRLEW, age 26, were each sentenced to 24 months imprisonment to run consecutive to their current sentences. On September 30, 2009, inmates BATES, GLASS, JENKINS, and KIRLEW participated in a protest at FCI Gilmer and refused to return to their cells when ordered. When staff attempted to restrain them, the four aggressively charged staff and assaulted them. Inmates BATES and JENKINS caused injury to two staff members.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Flower. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigative Services Unit at FCI Gilmer.
