Federal Inmate Enters Plea and is
Sentenced in Federal Court

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — An USP Gilmer inmate entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced on July 26, 2011, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, announced that: RICHARD NEWLAND, age 42, entered a plea of guilty to one count of possession of a prohibited object on January 19, 2010, when correctional officers searched NEWLAND’s cell and discovered a small quantity of marijuana. NEWLAND was sentenced to four months imprisonment to run consecutively with his current 108-month sentence.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Flower and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigative Services at FCI Gilmer.
