Defendant Enters Plea of Guilty
on Illegal Re-Entry into the United States Charge

WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA - A 24 year old, formerly from El Salvador, entered a plea of guilty today (May 27, 2010) in United States District Court in Wheeling before Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr.

United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that OMAR ANTONIO ESCALANTE-REINA entered a plea of guilty to one count charging him with the reentry into the United States on February 18, 2010, without the consent of the Secretary of Homeland Security nor the Attorney General of the United States to reapply for admission to the United States, after having been deported on July 25, 2008. ESCALANTE-REINA, who is in custody pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney John C. Parr and was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
