USP Hazelton Inmate Sentenced on Assault
and Possession of Weapon Charges
CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 53 year old USP Hazelton inmate was sentenced on May 4, 2010, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.
United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that FREDERICK PADGETT was sentenced to 120 months imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release with this sentence to be served at the end of the 210 month sentence PADGETT is currently serving for a 1998 drug conviction. PADGETT was convicted on December 2, 20009, after a jury trial, on charges contained in a two-count Indictment relating to a stabbing at USP Hazelton on September 20, 2008. While the housing unit was “locked-down” by the unit officer at USP Hazelton, PADGETT was arguing with another inmate and stabbed the inmate with a “shank” (9" piece of sharpened metal). PADGETT was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm and possession of a prohibited object by an inmate.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David E. Godwin. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Special Investigative Services at USP Hazelton.
