Martinsburg Resident Pleas to Social Security Fraud

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 40 year old Martinsburg, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty today (June 3, 2010), in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Judge David J. Joel.

United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that: STEFFNEY DENISE MAHON, also known as “STEFFNEY DENISE WELLS,” entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging her with being the recipient of payments under Social Security Administration Title II as the Representative Payee for her juvenile daughter, contining to receive benefits for her daughter after she was taken away from her and placed in foster care and failing to notify the Social Security Administration. The total amount of benefits paid to MAHON from June 2005 through November 2008 is $25,772.00. MAHON, who is free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti and was investigated by the Social Security Administration – Office of Inspector General.
