Mexican Citizen Entered Guilty Plea
to Drug Charge in Eastern Panhandle

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 32 year old Inwood, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on August 6, 2010, in United States District Court in Martinsburg before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.

United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that ROGELIO PORTILLO-VAZQUEZ, a citizen of Mexico who is illegally present in the United States, entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging him with possession with intent to distribute cocaine hydrochloride, also known as “coke,” on September 4, 2009, in Berkeley County, West Virginia.

PORTILLO-VAZQUEZ, who is currently in custody, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment and a fine of $1,000,000.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Erin K. Reisenweber. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, with assistance from uniformed members of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. The Task Force consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg Police Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
