Weston Resident Sentenced on Fraud Charge

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 28 year old Weston, West Virginia, resident was sentenced on August 16, 2010, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II announced that JENNIFER MILLS was sentenced to 41 months imprisonment to be followed by 3 years of supervised release. MILLS entered a plea of guilty on April 23, 2010, to one count of committing wire fraud in furtherance of a scheme to use the phone and fax for interstate communication. From July of 2001 to April of 2007, MILLS and her co-defendants defrauded numerous insurance companies, businesses and health care providers by staging car accidents, faking personal injuries and filing fraudulent insurance claims. As a result of defendant’s fraudulent scheme, MILLS and her co-defendants received approximately $150,000 in personal injury settlements and approximately $40,000 in unnecessary medical treatment. MILLS, who is free on bond, will self-report to the designated Federal institution.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew R. Cogar. The case was investigated by the West Virginia Insurance Commission, Office of Inspector General.
