Charles Town Resident Entered Guilty Plea
to Possession of Child Pornography

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA - A 53 year old Charles Town, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on October 21, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg, before Magistrate Judge David J. Joel.

Acting United States Attorney Betsy C. Jividen announced that CARL MATTHEW GAMBER entered a plea of guilty to one count of an Indictment charging him with possession of child pornography. Forensic analysis of GAMBER’s computer hard drives and related storage media revealed 676 images of child pornography.

GAMBER, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti. The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the West Virginia State Police.
