Buckhannon Resident Pleads Guilty to
Conspiracy to Steal Anhydrous Ammonia
ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA — A 47 year old Elkins, West Virginia, resident entered a plea of guilty on May 11, 2009, in United States District Court in Elkins before Judge Robert E. Maxwell.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that REX LYNDON BENNETT entered a plea of guilty to an Information charging him with conspiracy to steal anhydrous ammonia on August 8, 2006, in Upshur County, intending that it be used to manufacture methamphetamine.
BENNETT, who is currently free on bond pending sentencing, faces a maximum penalty of four years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen D. Warner. The case was investigated by the Preston County Sheriff’s Department, the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, the West Virginia Department of Natural Resources, and the West Virginia State Police-Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
