Bureau of Prisons Employee Sentenced on Bribery Charge

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 24 year old Bureau of Prisons employee was sentenced on June 15, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter and Gene E. Morrison, Special Agent in Charge, U. S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, Washington Field Office, announced that WILLIAM E. BRANTNER, age 24, of Friendsville, Maryland, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment to be followed by two years supervised release. BRANTNER, who was a correctional officer employed by the United States Bureau of Prisons, entered a plea of guilty in February 2009 to one count of an Information charging him with bribery after receiving money from an inmate at USP Hazelton in return for heroin, marijuana, tobacco, and a cellular telephone in March 2008.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David E. Godwin and was investigated by the Office of the Inspector General, Washington Field Office.
