Martinsburg Resident Sentenced
on Cocaine Charges

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 53 year old Martinsburg resident was sentenced on July 15, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that GILBERT COLEMAN SHEPHERD was sentenced to 33 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. SHEPHERD entered guilty pleas on May 8, 2009, to six counts of distribution of cocaine base, also known as “crack,” and one count of distribution of cocaine hydrochloride, also known as “coke” in Berkeley County spanning a period of time from March 2008 to October 2008.

SHEPHERD is in federal custody.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti. The case was investigated by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force; uniformed officers of the West Virginia State Police; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives; and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department. The Task Force consists of officers from the West Virginia State Police - Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Martinsburg Police Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.
