New Jersey Resident Sentenced to 5+ Years
on Firearms Violation

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 26 year old Hackettstown, New Jersey, resident was sentenced on July 15, 2009, in United States District Court in Martinsburg by Chief Judge John Preston Bailey.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JOHN ROBERT CAMERON was sentenced to 63 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release. CAMERON entered a plea of guilty on March 9, 2009, to one count of an Indictment charging CAMERON, a convicted felon, with unlawfully possessing a firearm. CAMERON was examining a .25 caliber Raven pistol on February 15, 2009, and shot himself in he leg. He has prior convictions for burglary and weapons in New Jersey.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Paul T. Camilletti. The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.
