Baltimore, Maryland, Resident Sentenced For
Transporting Stolen Vehicles from West Virginia to Maryland
ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA — A 31 year old Baltimore, Maryland, resident was sentenced on January 6, 2009, in United States District Court in Elkins, West Virginia, by Judge Robert E. Maxwell.
United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that JOSEPH HERMAN, also known as “JOEY,” was sentenced to 37 months imprisonment to be followed by three years supervised release and was ordered to restitution in the amount of $54,980.01. HERMAN entered a plea of guilty on September 24, 2008, to one count of an Indictment charging him with aiding and abetting the transportation from West Virginia to Maryland of two 2004 Honda All-Terraine Vehicles; a 2004 Honda Motorcycle; a 2002 Honda motorcyle; a 2003 All-Terraine Vehicle; three 2005 Yamaha All-Terraine Vehicles; and a 2001 Yamaha Motorcycle, knowing that they were stolen from a business in Randolph County.
HERMAN is in federal custody.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stephen D. Warner. The case was investigated by the West Virginia State Police, the Weirton Police Department, the Summersville Police Department, and the Baltimore Police Department.
