Salem Resident Sentenced for Distributing Cocaine
Within 1,000 Feet of Salem Park

CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 23 year old Salem, West Virginia, resident was sentenced on February 6, 2009, in United States District Court in Clarksburg by Judge Irene M. Keeley.

United States Attorney Sharon L. Potter announced that MICHAEL BRIAN MATHENA was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment to be followed by six years supervised release. MATHENA entered a plea of guilty on October 15, 2008, to one count of an Indictment charging him with the distribution of cocaine within 1,000 feet of Salem Park on April 4, 2007.

MATHENA is in federal custody.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Andrew R. Cogar. The case was investigated by the Harrison/Lewis County Drug & Violent Crime Task Force, consisting of officers from the Clarksburg Police Department, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
