Door County Resident Charged with Receiving and Possessing Child Pornography as a Convicted Sex Offender

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 10, 2011

United States Attorney James L. Santelle announced today that on August 9, 2011, a federal grand jury indicted Alexander Leyendecker (age 41), a convicted sex offender from Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, for knowingly receiving and possessing child pornography.

The indictment alleges that in 1997, Leyendecker was convicted in Kewaunee County Circuit of two counts of first degree sexual assault of a child. The indictment further alleges that between January 2009 and July 2010, Leyendecker knowingly received and possessed child pornography involving children as young as four to six years old, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252(a)(2), (a)(4)(B), (b)(1), and (b)(2).

If convicted, Leyendecker faces a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 40 years in prison for receiving child pornography and a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison for possessing child pornography. Leyendecker also would face fines of up to $250,000 per count and up to a life term of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Door County Sheriff’s Department and has been assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Timothy W. Funnell for prosecution.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt
