Green Bay Correctional Inmate Charged with Threatening President Obama

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 8, 2011

United States Attorney James L. Santelle announced that on June 7, 2011, a federal grand jury returned a one-count indictment charging Nikko T. Krohn (Age: 21) a Green Bay Correctional Institution (GBCI) inmate with threatening President Obama. If convicted Krohn faces a maximum of 5 years in prison.

The indictment alleges that Krohn mailed a death threat to President Obama on February 18, 2011, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871(a). The letter was received by the White House’s correspondence office and did not reach the President. Krohn was in GBCI serving an unrelated state prison term at the time of the mailing.

The case was investigated by the United States Secret Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Funnell of the Eastern District of Wisconsin, Green Bay Division.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
