ROBERT A. POSEY, 27, of Tacoma, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to five years of imprisonment for Possession of Crack Cocaine with Intent to Distribute. POSEY pleaded guilty June 13, 2007. POSEY was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Franklin D. Burgess.

POSEY was arrested in February 2007, at a relative’s home in Tacoma. POSEY had crack cocaine on him, and additional crack in the bedroom where he was sleeping. Just over a year earlier, in December 2005, police searched POSEY’s home on South 49th Street in Tacoma and found a loaded Beretta handgun and $27,000 in cash. In his plea agreement POSEY admits the cash was from his drug dealing, and the gun was used in connection with his drug dealing.

POSEY has multiple felony convictions including a 2000 conviction for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Car Theft, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. In that case, POSEY stole a man’s car. When the car theft victim confronted POSEY, he pulled a gun and shot at the victim. The victim was also armed, fired back and chased POSEY in another vehicle. The police joined the pursuit which reached speeds of 100 MPH, before POSEY crashed the car. POSEY was sentenced to 56 months in prison. After his release he quickly returned to dealing crack cocaine.

Assistant United States Attorney Mike Dion wrote in his sentencing memo, “Robert Posey is a dangerous and violent man. Posey has several felony convictions and, according to the tattoo on his stomach, he is a ‘Crip For Life.’ He has a history of carrying guns and using them.”

The case was investigated by the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mike Dion.
