ARTURO REYES-RODRIGUEZ, 35, of Tacoma, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to 15 years in prison for Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Distribution of Methamphetamine, and Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Crime. REYES-RODRIGUEZ is a Mexican National who was illegally in the United States. He will be deported following his prison term. U.S. District Judge Franklin D. Burgess imposed the sentence this morning.

REYES-RODRIGUEZ was convicted June 22, 2007, following a three day jury trial. REYES-RODRIGUEZ was arrested July 24, 2006, after purchasing $50,000 of ephedrine from an undercover officer and a confidential informant. REYES-RODRIGUEZ and his co-conspirators had agreed to purchase the ephedrine so that they could manufacture large amounts of methamphetamine. REYES-RODRIGUEZ was also involved in the sale of methamphetamine. When REYES-RODRIGUEZ was arrested he was armed with a handgun.

Two of REYES-RODRIGUEZ’s co-defendants have already been sentenced. Angel Luis Sierra-Reyes was sentenced in August 2007, to 96 months in prison. Adolfo Solis-Reyes was sentenced July 11, 2007, to five years in prison.

The case was investigated by the Washington State Patrol. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Reese Jennings and Special Assistant United States Attorney Doug Hill. Mr. Hill is a Deputy Pierce County Prosecutor, specially designated to prosecute drug cases in federal court.
