CARLOS M. GONZALEZ-CASTILLO, 55, of Tacoma, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to 200 months in prison and five years of supervised release for Conspiracy to Distribute Cocaine Base, two counts of Distribution of Cocaine Base, and Possession of Cocaine Base with Intent to Distribute. GONZALEZ-CASTILLO has multiple prior drug convictions in Pierce County Superior Court. U.S. District Judge Franklin D. Burgess recommended GONZALEZ-CASTILLO for intensive drug treatment while in prison.

According to the plea agreement, at three different times on January 18, 2007, GONZALEZ-CASTILLO sold various amounts of crack cocaine to a confidential source working for the Drug Enforcement Administration Tahoma Narcotics Enforcement Team (DEA/TNET) task force. The sales all occurred in the parking lot of GONZALEZ-CASTILLO’s apartment. GONZALEZ-CASTILLO and another conspirator were arrested leaving the apartment. Inside investigators found additional cocaine and money from the drug buys.

GONZALEZ-CASTILLO pleaded guilty on April 25, 2007. As part of the plea agreement, both the prosecution and defense agreed to recommend a sentence of 200 months in prison.

The case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration Tahoma Narcotics Enforcement Team (DEA/TNET) task force. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Doug Hill. Mr. Hill is a Pierce County Deputy Prosecutor specially designated to prosecute drug cases in federal court.
