ALAN W. GUIMONT, 52, of Tacoma, Washington, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to 36 months in prison and 5 years of supervised release for Possession of Child Pornography. In addition U.S. District Court Judge Franklin D. Burgess ordered GUIMONT to register as a sex offender when he is released from prison.

GUIMONT was arrested in June 2005, after officers followed up on a tip that he had received child pornography. GUIMONT admitted that he had received child pornography over the internet and had saved it on encrypted DVDs. Three computers, 136 DVDs and many videotapes were seized from GUIMONT’s home. A forensic examination of the DVDs revealed approximately 650 images of child pornography, much of it involving children under the age of twelve. In addition government prosecutors obtained chat room transcripts revealing that GUIMONT had discussed his sexual interest in young children.

In asking for a significant sentence, Assistant United States Attorney Mike Dion wrote to the court, “possession of child pornography is not a victimless crime. Collectors of child pornography perpetuate an industry that exploits, degrades and tortures children. A substantial jail sentence is required to show Guimont and people like him that they will pay a heavy price if they indulge their interest in child pornography.”

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mike Dion.
