KENT MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR ECSTASY TRAFFICKING
Defendant One of Five in Conspiracy to Distribute Ecstasy from Canada
KAMALJIT SINGH GHAG, 24, of Kent, Washington was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Seattle today to two years in prison and three years of supervised release for Conspiracy to Distribute Ecstasy and Distribution of Ecstasy. GHAG was arrested June 30, 2005 following an undercover investigation of five people for smuggling ecstasy into the United States from Canada. The conspirators were selling the ecstasy for thousands of dollars. U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour has already sentenced three other co-conspirators.
During June 2005, GHAG and co-conspirators RAVINDERJIT KAUR PUAR, 31, of Vancouver, British Columbia, SARBJIT SINGH SANDHU, 26, of Yuba City, California, SARBJIT SINGH VIRK, 33, of Surrey, British Columbia and JAGTAR SINGH KALSI, 26, of Kent, Washington, were involved in drug deals with an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent. In one deal in the parking lot of the Auburn Supermall, the agent paid GHAG $9,800 for 2,700 ecstasy pills. In recorded telephone calls and conversations with the undercover agent conspirators bragged about their drug organization. At face to face meetings they provided samples of the pills they claimed to manufacture in Canada.
GHAG was found guilty following a three day bench trial on March 1, 2006.
On October 14, 2005 RAVINDERJIT KAUR PUAR pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Ecstasy and Distribution of Ecstasy. On May 5, 2006 PUAR was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
On December 8, 2005 SARBJIT SINGH VIRK pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Ecstasy. On April 21, 2006 he was sentenced to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
On January 30, 2006 SARBJIT SINGH SANDHU pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute Ecstasy and Distribution of Ecstasy. On June 2, 2006 he was sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
On February 17, 2006 JAGTAR SINGH KALSI pleaded guilty to Distribution of Ecstasy. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 18, 2006.
The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Karyn S. Johnson and Sarah Y. Vogel prosecuted the case.
