Spokane – Michael C. Ormsby, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, announced that Jayce Pirtle, age 24, of Spokane, Washington, was sentenced for being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He pleaded guilty to the crime on March 21, 2012. The Honorable Wm. Fremming Nielsen sentenced Jayce Pirtle to a 120-month term of imprisonment and a three-year term of court supervision following release from custody. Jayce Pirtle has been in federal custody since November 21, 2011.

This case arose from a search of Jayce Pirtle's Spokane premises by Washington Department of Corrections officers. During the search the officers discovered a .357 caliber firearm and seven rounds of ammunition in Pirtle's bedroom. While searching the attached garage and a vehicle parked in it, officers discovered a 30-06 caliber rifle, a 7.62 x 39 caliber rifle with a high capacity magazine, and one-hundred-sixty-eight rounds of ammunition. The Spokane Police Department and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives assisted in the search.

Michael C. Ormsby said, "Prosecuting firearm-related crimes is a priority for this Office. The message should be clear, if you are a felon and possess a firearm or ammunition, the Federal penalty will be severe when you are convicted. The safety of the Eastern District of Washington demands nothing less."

The investigation was conducted by, Washington Department of Corrections, the Spokane Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives,. The case was prosecuted by George J.C. Jacobs, III, an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.
