Spokane – Today, Michael C. Ormsby, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, announced that Cameron Len Gaunt, age 28, formerly of Chelan, Washington, pleaded guilty to three bank robberies. He has been detained since his arrest on July 20, 2010. Sentencing is set for March 3, 2011.

On July 13, 2010, a branch of the Bank of America located in Omak, Washington, was robbed. The bank is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Local law enforcement distributed a photograph of the robber to the local media and requested assistance from the public.

On July 16, 2010, a branch of Washington Trust Bank, located in Wenatchee, Washington, was robbed. The bank is insured by the FDIC. At the time of this robbery, a copy of the Wenatchee World Newspaper article and photograph concerning the July 13, 2010, Bank of America robbery in Omak was in the bank. The victim-teller indicated it was the same person.

On July 20, 2010, a branch of Washington Trust Bank, located in Moses Lake, Washington, was robbed. The bank was insured by the FDIC. On July 20, 2010, an unidentified person called a Crime Stopper Tip Line and stated that the robber depicted in the Wenatchee World newspaper was, in fact, Cameron Gaunt. Others who knew Cameron Gaunt also positively identified him as the bank robber. Cameron Gaunt was then being supervised by the United States Probation Office, having just been released from prison in June, after serving sentences for firearm and counterfeiting charges.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Marshal Service and local law enforcement began tracking Cameron Gaunt. He was located and arrested on July 20, 2010, in an east Spokane motel with a motorcycle he had purchased with some of the bank robbery proceeds.

Michael C. Ormsby, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, said, "Bank robbers are terrifying to victim bank tellers and customers. Through the exemplary and cooperative efforts of our dedicated Federal and state law enforcement partners, Cameron Gaunt will be held accountable for his crimes."

Each bank robbery conviction carries a penalty of up to 20-years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, 3-years of court supervision after release and restitution.

This investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshal Service, the U.S. Probation Office, the Omak Police Department, the Wenatchee Police Department, and the Moses Lake Police Department. This case is being prosecuted by Joseph Harrington, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.
