Yakima – James A. McDevitt, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, announced that Javier M. Hart, age 35, a resident of Selah, Washington, was sentenced yesterday to 30 years imprisonment for drug trafficking. On August 20, 2009, a jury found Mr. Hart guilty of possessing 67.3 grams of actual methamphetamine with intent to distribute it and guilty of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute it.

James A. McDevitt, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, said, “Congress has decided that repeat drug offenders should face significant sentences in order to protect the public and deter others. Mr. Hart’s sentence furthers these goals and highlights the serious nature of his crimes.”

On November 10, 2008, a Yakima County Department of Corrections officer was conducting a routine home visit for Javier Hart, who was then under supervision. During the course of the visit, the Corrections Officer located methamphetamine in the trunk of a vehicle used by Mr. Hart. A subsequent search of the vehicle also uncovered cocaine. At sentencing, Mr. Hart admitted to possessing with intent to distribute cocaine and more than 50 grams of actual methamphetamine.

This investigation was conducted by the Yakima County Department of Corrections; L.E.A.D. Task Force; Selah Police Department; Yakima County Sheriff; and the Drug Enforcement Administration. Assistant United States Attorney Shawn Anderson tried the case.
