ROANOKE, VIRGINIA -- A Goodview, Va., man was sentenced recently to a lengthy prison term on drug and gun charges following a two-day trial in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke.

Aston Early McCrea, a.k.a. Kojak, 50, was found guilty in May 2012 following a two-day jury trial. The jury convicted McCrea of one count of conspiracy to distribution marijuana, one count of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, one count of being a previously convicted felon illegally in possession of a firearm and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

On September 10, 2012, McCrea was sentenced to 180 months of federal incarceration and eight years of supervised release thereafter. In addition, the defendant was ordered to forfeit $80,000 in cash as a money judgement and $3,937 in seized drug proceeds.

The investigation of the case was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, the Roanoke City Police Department and the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Bubar is prosecuting the case for the United States.
