RICHMOND, Va. – Joshua J. McGahan, 32, of Concord, New Hampshire, was sentenced today to 180 months in prison for possessing a large amount of hallucinogenic drugs that he intended to sell at a traveling rock concert in Florida.

            Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Ava A. Cooper-Davis, Special Agent in Charge, DEA Washington Field Division; and Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Superintendent, Virginia State Police, made the announcement after McGahan’s sentencing by United States District Judge Henry E. Hudson.

            McGahan pled guilty on August 27, 2012, to one count of Possession with the Intent to Distribute Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (“LSD”).  According to court documents, on April 19, 2012, McGahan was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 95 by a Virginia State Police Trooper in Chesterfield County, Virginia.  During the course of the traffic stop, McGahan was arrested for possession of marijuana and admitted that the trunk of his vehicle contained a backpack with $20,000 worth of hallucinogenic drugs.  A search of the backpack recovered 11 bottles of liquid LSD weighing over 23 grams, over 60 grams of methylone, over 59 grams of marijuana, and 100 pieces of blotter paper impregnated with a designer drug called 25-I-NBOme.  McGahan later admitted he intended to sell the hallucinogenic drugs at a traveling rock concert in Florida.      

            This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, in conjunction with the Virginia State Police.  Assistant United States Attorneys Erik S. Siebert prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
