Hampton Women Sentenced for her Role in Robbery
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Angelique Stewart, 29, of Hampton, Va., was sentenced today to 3 years in prison for her role in the robbery of a Hampton Food Lion Store on October 21, 2011.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Rebecca Beach Smith. Stewart pled guilty on August 9, 2012.
According to court documents Stewart acted as the getaway driver during the robbery of a Food Lion grocery store in Hampton. Her co-conspirators, Emmanuel C. Norman and Jeffrey Malcou, posing as FBI agents, entered the Food Lion and placed devices on two employees leading them to believe they contained explosives. They threatened to blow the employees up if they tried to do anything to stop them. A beer vender, in the store at the time of the robbery, got into an altercation with Jeffrey Malcou during which Malcou was stabbed. The co-conspirator, Norman, then discharged a firearm shooting the beer vendor in the leg. The victim is still recovering from his injuries. Stewart picked the two up as they fled from the store.
Jeffrey Malcou pled guilty to robbery, firearm charges, and impersonating a Federal agent, and was sentenced to a total of 17 ½ years in prison. Emmanuel Norman also pled guilty to robbery, discharging a firearm and impersonating a Federal agent, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Malcou, Norman and Stewart were ordered to pay restitution in excess of $62,000.
This case was investigated by Hampton Police Department and FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Robert Bradenham, II and Special Assistant United States Attorney Bradley Price prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
