MS-13 Gang Member Sentenced to 12 Months for Illegally Re-Entering U.S.
El Salvador Native Previously Sentenced to 25 Years for Raping Eight-Year-Old Girl
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Salvador Portillo, 30, a citizen and national of El Salvador, and member of the MS-13 street gang, who was previously convicted of sexually assaulting a child in Fairfax County, Va., was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison today for illegally reentering the United States after having been previously deported.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, Virginia Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli, II, and M. Yvonne Evans, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations in Washington, D.C., made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Claude M. Hilton.
According to court documents, Portillo illegally entered the United States and was deported by immigration authorities on Oct. 8, 2003. Thereafter, Portillo again illegally reentered the United States. On Dec. 26, 2010, Portillo sexually assaulted an eight-year-old girl in Fairfax County, Va. He was subsequently convicted of rape and sodomy in the Fairfax County Circuit Court and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Portillo was transferred from state to federal custody on July 12, 2012, and he pled guilty to illegal re-entry on July 23, 2012.
This case was investigated by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. Virginia Assistant Attorney General and Special Assistant United States Attorney Marc Birnbaum is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
