Alexandria Man Pleads Guilty to Defrauding Nursing School
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Terence Wilson, 35, of Alexandria, Va., pleaded guilty today to stealing more than $250,000 from an Alexandria-based nursing school.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; David E. Beach, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service’s Washington Field Office; and Earl Cook, Alexandria Chief of Police, made the announcement after the plea was accepted by United States District Judge James C. Cacheris.
Wilson was charged by criminal information on Feb. 22, 2012, with wire fraud and conspiracy to the commit money laundering, which each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. Sentencing has been scheduled for May 25, 2012.
In a statement of facts filed with his plea agreement, Wilson admitted to conducting a multi-year scheme to defraud Global Health Nurse Training Services (GHNTS), where he held various financial positions at GHNTS, including Director of Finance and Director of Financial Aid. While working at GHNTS, Wilson had access to and knowledge of the company’s payment systems, including its point-of-sale debit card payment terminals. Wilson used his access to GHNTS point-of-sale terminals to cause GHNTS to make hundreds of unauthorized refunds to his own debit card and cards belonging to others, including several women whom he was dating or courting. After receiving unauthorized refunds from Wilson, one co-conspirator would repay him using personal checks, thereby laundering the proceeds of Wilson’s theft from GHNTS.
In total, from August 2008 through May 2011, Wilson caused GHNTS to make at least $256,000 in unauthorized refund payments to himself and others.
This case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and the Alexandria Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Chad Golder is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.
