Sex Offender Sentenced to 72 Months in Prison For Unlawful Reentry and Failure to Register
ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Juan Carlos Rosales, 38, was sentenced today to 72 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported and after having been convicted of an aggravated felony, and for failing to register as a sex offender.
Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Henry Lucero, Field Office Director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Washington Field Office, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge Anthony J. Trenga. Rosales was found guilty on both charges by a federal jury on Jan. 28, 2011.
According to court documents, Rosales is a native and citizen of El Salvador, who unlawfully entered the United States in 1993. In 2003, after living in the United States for nearly a decade, Rosales was convicted in the Circuit Court of Fairfax County, Va., of two counts of having carnal knowledge of a minor between thirteen and fifteen years of age. He was sentenced to ten years on each count for a total of twenty years. After serving a four-year term of incarceration, Rosales was deported to El Salvador. Less than 30 days after being deported, Rosales unlawfully returned to the United States, and despite residing in the United States for years afterward, Rosales knowingly failed to register as a sex offender, in violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
This case was investigated by ICE ERO. Special Assistant United States Attorney Ferdose al-Taie and Assistant United States Attorneys Gene Rossi and Ryan K. Dickey prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
