ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Three men from Manassas, Va., were each sentenced today to 50 years in prison for using firearms to murder a man they believed had robbed them of drugs and money earned through their drug trafficking operation.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Rich Marianos, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) Washington Field Division; and Douglas W. Keen, Manassas City Chief of Police, made the announcement after sentencing by United States District Judge James C. Cacheris.

Marvin Wayne Williams Jr., 32; DeShawn Anderson, 20; and Freddie Wigenton, 21, were convicted on Dec. 10, 2010, of conspiring to distribute crack cocaine and using a firearm in the murder of Kyle Turner.

According to court records and evidence at trial, Williams, Anderson and Wigenton were part of a drug trafficking organization in 2006 that distributed more than 500 grams of crack cocaine throughout the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, primarily in the vicinity of Manassas. They carried firearms to promote their trafficking business and to intimidate, frighten and kill others. They also maintained an apartment in Manassas City as a stash house where they stored crack cocaine before distributing it to customers and also the money they earned through their trafficking activities.

On Dec. 9, 2006, two men forced their way into one of these apartments, which was leased to another conspirator, Annette Sprow, 33. Sprow and another woman were present during the robbery, and the men stole drugs, drug proceeds and Sprow’s car, which was parked outside. The evidence at trial showed that Sprow later told Williams that she suspected an Kyle Turner, someone she knew from the neighborhood, as one of the robbers. Williams assured Sprow that he would take care of the situation.

According to evidence at trial, on Dec. 12, 2006, Sprow spotted Turner and another associate in the Colonial Village neighborhood, in Manassas City.  Turner was later shot to death in the apartment complex parking lot by Williams, Wigenton, and Anderson. Turner was shot 13 times by three different firearms. Soon after the shooting, at Williams’s direction, Sprow took the Wigenton and Williams away from the scene in her car and dropped them off at another location.

On Nov. 20, 2008, Sprow pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine and being an accessory after the fact. She was sentenced on Feb. 20, 2009, to 120 months in prison.

This case was investigated by ATF and the Manassas City Police Department. Trial Attorney Steve Mellin of the Criminal Division’s Capital Case Unit at the U.S. Department of Justice and Assistant United States Attorney Michael Ben’Ary from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
