DALLAS MAN SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ROLE IN
30-KILOGRAM COCAINE DISTRIBUTION CONSPIRACY

DALLAS — Gary Equiluz Alfaro, 29, was sentenced this morning to 144 months (12 years) in federal prison for his supervisory role in a 30-kilogram cocaine distribution conspiracy, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas. Alfaro has been in custody since his arrest in May 2011.

According to plea documents filed in the case, from November 2009 to January 28, 2010, Alfaro, aka “Gordo,” “G2,” and “G,” and others participated in a conspiracy with co-defendants Magdaleno Torres-Lozano and Jose Manuel Aguilerato distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.

Alfaro agreed to accept shipment of nearly 30 kilograms of cocaine, intended for eventual distribution, that was being delivered via Yellow Roadway Corporation to his Dallas residence. Co-defendants Torres-Lozano and Aguilera picked up the box containing the cocaine at Yellow Roadway on January 28, 2010, and, per Alfaro’s instructions, took the box to his residence. While Torres-Lozano and Aguilera waited for Alfaro to arrive, they were arrested. Law enforcement waited for Alfaro at the residence, but he never arrived. He was arrested in May 2011.

Torres-Lozano and Aguilera pleaded guilty to their roles in the conspiracy and were sentenced in December 2011 to 54 and 51 months, respectively.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration. Deputy Criminal Chief Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Dewald was in charge of the prosecution.
