SERIAL BANK ROBBER PLEADS GUILTY IN FEDERAL COURT A man who admitted committing numerous bank robberies in the Northern District of Texas, and elsewhere, pled guilty today in federal court in Fort Worth, Texas, announced United States Attorney Richard B. Roper. Ronald Lee Williams, Jr., age 36, who has been in custody since his arrest in Arlington, Texas, in mid-October 2006, faces a maximum statutory sentence of 80 years imprisonment and a $1 million fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced by United States District Judge John H. McBryde on April 27, 2007. According to documents filed in court today, between about September 2005 to October 2006, Ronald Lee Williams, Jr. committed numerous bank robberies. Generally, Williams would target banks located inside stores. Williams would show a demand note to the victim tellers, demanding certain denominations of cash. The demand note was usually contained in a zippered blue bank bag or pencil case with a clear plastic window. Williams admitted committing the following bank robberies: • October 3, 2005 Bank of America • October 28, 2005 Comerica Bank • February 9, 2006 Wells Fargo Bank • July 21, 2006 Guaranty Bank • August 9, 2006 First Convenience Bank • August 22, 2006 Bank of America • September 7, 2006 First Convenience Bank • September 19, 2006 First Convenience Bank • October 10, 2006 Bank of America U.S. Attorney Roper praised the excellent investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Arlington, Dallas, Bedford, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin, and Houston Police Departments. Assistant United States Attorney Mark Nichols of the Fort Worth, Texas, United States Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution. ###
