SERIAL BANK ROBBER SENTENCED TO 17.5 YEARS
IN FEDERAL PRISON, WITHOUT PAROLE

AMARILLO, Tx. --- Keith Anthony Williams, who admitted committing several bank robberies in Amarillo in 2006, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Mary Lou Robinson to 210 months in prison, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper. Williams, 40, was also ordered to pay $66,916 in restitution, the sum of money he stole from the banks.

Williams pled guilty in April to one count of armed bank robbery. According to documents filed in court, Williams committed the following armed bank robberies:

• May 1, 2006 Bank of America
3601 Washington Street

• June 12, 2006 Amarillo National Bank
24th and Grand

• August 22, 2006 Amarillo Community Federal Credit Union
6200 I-40 West

• September 22, 2006 Bank of America
3601 Washington Street

On October 11, 2006, Williams entered the Amarillo National Bank at 2410 Coulter with a pistol and attempted to rob an elderly female who was making a deposit at the window. The female customer resisted, drawing the attention of another male customer. That male customer and Williams began to fight and then Williams struck him with his pistol. Williams ran outside and was followed by the customer. Williams then racked the slide of the pistol and pointed it at the customer, who then retreated. Afterwards, Williams ran to a vehicle, which he had stolen from a carwash minutes before entering the bank.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Amarillo Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christy L. Drake of the Amarillo, Texas, U.S. Attorney’s Office.
