ARMED FELON SENTENCED TO 87 MONTHS IN FEDERAL PRISON DALLAS — Christian Joe Allison, 32, of Amarillo, Texas, was sentenced today by U.S. Chief District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater to 87 months (more than seven years) in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper of the Northern District of Texas. On July 16, 2006, officers with the Iowa Park Police Department received information that an intoxicated and possibly armed driver was driving erratically southbound on US 287, running vehicles off the road. Police officers stopped the vehicle and the driver was identified as Christian Joe Allison, who appeared to be intoxicated. Allison advised the Iowa Park officer that there was a pistol in the car’s glove box and a shotgun in the trunk. The officers discovered a loaded 9 millimeter pistol, a loaded 12 gauge shotgun, two boxes of 9 millimeter bullets, a box of shotgun shells and a 24-inch machete in the vehicle. Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing any manner of firearm or ammunition. Because of Allison’s extensive history of violent crimes, which includes 12 convictions in the last ten years, and his flight from custody while on pretrial supervised release, he was sentenced to the highest end of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. He will serve his sentence without the possibility of parole. Allison’s case was investigated and adopted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office under the Project Safe Neighborhoods program, a nationwide effort targeting gun crime. U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the ATF and the Iowa Park Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jordan A. Konig. ### |
