SAN ANGELO MAN INDICTED ON
FEDERAL CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND CHILD OBSCENITY CHARGES

A federal grand jury in Lubbock returned a two-count indictment today charging San Angelo, Texas, resident, James C. Stanford, with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of receipt of child obscenity, announced U.S. Attorney Richard B. Roper.

The indictment alleges that on January 20, 2006, Stanford received images of child pornography and child obscenity when he downloaded them from the Internet to his computer.

An indictment is an accusation by a federal grand jury and a defendant is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty. However, if convicted on both counts of the indictment, Stanford, age 38, faces a maximum statutory sentence of 40 years imprisonment and a $500,000 fine.

U.S. Attorney Roper commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Steven M. Sucsy, of the Lubbock, Texas, United States Attorney's Office.
