FORT WORTH MAN SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS
IN FEDERAL PRISON, WITHOUT PAROLE,
ON FIREARMS CONVICTION

Cedric L. Mays, 35, of Fort Worth, Texas, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Terry R. Means, to 240 months imprisonment, announced United States Attorney Richard B. Roper. Mays pled guilty in May to one count of a federal indictment charging felon in possession of a firearm. That indictment also included a narcotics charge and another firearms charge which were dismissed at today’s sentencing hearing.

According to documents filed in Court, Mays has three state felony convictions for serious drug offenses. When Fort Worth Police Officers executed a search warrant on July 13, 2005 at 5445 Hensley Drive in Fort Worth, they discovered four firearms in the bedroom of the house. Mays was also in the bedroom of the house.

In the house, officers found a Jimenez Arms 9 mm pistol, a Norinco 7.62 caliber rifle, a Remington 30.06 caliber rifle and a Winchester 12 gauge shotgun.

U.S. Attorney Roper praised the investigative efforts of the Fort Worth Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Alan M. Buie.
